Hydrogen bonding with specific molecules such as potassium phosphate can also be observed in this molecule. 2,2,2-Trifluoroethanethiol can be activated by oxidation or reduction reactions. The activation energy for these reactions is 10 kcal/mol and 6 kcal/mol respectively. The vibrational spectrum for this compound has been determined using nmr spectroscopy.
