2,2,2-Trifluoro-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-acetamide is a synthetic compound that has been used as a conjugate for radioactively labeled trifluoroacetic acid. It is used to study the uptake of this acid by the pancreas and the liver. This compound has also been postulated to be reactive with primary amino groups in proteins and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) in cell membranes. 2,2,2-Trifluoro-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-acetamide is hydrophilic and can act as a chloride ionophore. This makes it useful for the transport of ions across membranes.
