Description:

Tris(4-fluorophenyl)phosphine oxide (TFPO) is a phosphine-based organocatalyst that is used to catalyze a variety of reactions, including β-unsaturated ketones. TFPO has been shown to be effective at activating peroxide and stabilizing lanthanum. The phosphine moiety can bind in a stereospecific fashion with the metal center, which facilitates the formation of the reactive intermediate. This mechanism of activation has been studied systematically and is known for its ability to provide an efficient synthetic route to β-unsaturated ketones. TFPO also activates molecules, such as alkenes, by focusing on the transition state and stabilizing it through catalysis.
