Methyl 5-chloro-4-fluoro-1H-indole-2-carboxylate is a regioisomeric, non-nucleoside inhibitor of HIV reverse transcriptase. It is synthesized by the reaction of 4-chloro-3-(trifluoromethyl)aniline with chloroform and potassium iodide in methanol. The methyl ester is then hydrolyzed to give the final product. This compound has been crystallized and its molecular weight determined to be approximately 310 g/mol. Methyl 5-chloro-4-fluoroindolecarboxylate can be used as an intermediate for other syntheses.
