4-Vinylbiphenyl is a polymeric matrix that is soluble in organic solvents. It is a yellow crystalline solid, which has been shown to be an effective cross-linking agent for polymerization reactions. 4-Vinylbiphenyl has been used in the production of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and as a cross-linking agent for other pharmaceuticals. 4-Vinylbiphenyl can be combined with other agents to form polymeric matrices that are insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. The use of 4-vinylbiphenyl as a cross-linking agent increases the hardness and durability of the final product. This compound also has been shown to inhibit HDAC activity, which may be useful in treating cancerous brain cells or other malignant cells.
