Description

Visnadine is a coumarin derivative that inhibits cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases, which are enzymes that break down the second messengers cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in animal models and may be useful for the treatment of chronic cough. Visnadine has also been shown to inhibit 3t3-l1 preadipocytes from differentiating into adipocytes, suggesting potential use in treating obesity. The drug has also been shown to have cardiac effects in rats with congestive heart failure. Visnadine's mechanism of action is not well understood, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit signal pathways involved in regulating cardiac function.
