Description:Delta-Valerolactone is a sodium salt that has a water-soluble, low melting point and a high vapor pressure. It has been used as a sample preparation agent in NMR spectroscopy and is also used in the manufacture of cosmetics. The compound has been shown to be active against Escherichia coli K-12 and rat liver microsomes. Delta-Valerolactone does not have any significant effect on the activity of enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase, butylcholinesterase or aminopyrine N-demethylase. This compound can also be found in human urine samples at concentrations of up to 2 mg/L.
