Description:

WST-5 is a colourless compounds which become coloured when reduced to WST-5 formazan forming a blue colour. Traditionally used as an indicator of cell metabolism in eukaryotes and prokaryotes, WST-5 functions as an artificial electron acceptor and thus detects dehydrogenase activities. The production of coloured formazan is irreversible and can be quantified using spectrophotometry.
