X 396 is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that is being investigated in a multicenter phase II study. X 396 inhibits the activity of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and has been shown to have potent antitumor activity in pre-clinical studies. This drug also has low toxicity profiles and no significant side effects. The molecule binds to the tyrosine kinase domain of EGFR and prevents it from binding with its ligands, which would otherwise stimulate cell proliferation. X 396 was found to be reactive with human monoclonal antibodies against EGFR, suggesting that this drug may be an appropriate agent for treating EGFR-positive tumors.
