Zimelidine dihydrochloride (ZD) is an experimental drug that belongs to the group of tricyclic antidepressant drugs. It has been shown to have a number of pharmacological effects, including inhibiting serotonin reuptake in the brain and stimulating 5-HT2 receptors. ZD has also been shown to increase the permeability of the blood-brain barrier and may be used as a model for hypersensitivity syndrome, which is characterized by severe skin reactions following exposure to certain substances. ZD also inhibits carcinoma cell lines in vitro and acts as an anticancer agent. The drug’s effects on bowel disease are not well understood. ZD has been shown to cause cardiac effects such as arrhythmias and tachycardia.
