Cis-zeatin is a plant hormone that regulates the growth and development of plants. It binds to DNA binding domains, which are located in the N-terminal region of the protein. Cis-zeatin also has been shown to bind to monoclonal antibodies that are specific for infectious diseases, such as HIV and hepatitis C virus. This compound has been shown to have antiviral properties and may be useful for the treatment of these diseases. The fatty acid composition of cis-zeatin allows it to be used as an energy source for cells and may be a potential therapeutic target for metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus type II. Cis-zeatin also has protease activity, hydrogen fluoride (HF) resistance, an optimal pH range of 5-8, and ATP channeling properties. It is also a model system for studying autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
