Product Information

Name:
Methyl heneicosanoate
Description:

Methyl heneicosanoate is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that is found in adipose tissue and is also a byproduct of the synthesis of other fatty acids. It can be detected in biological samples as a result of its thermoreversible nature. Methyl heneicosanoate has been demonstrated to have disease activity, including p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which may be related to body mass index. Methyl heneicosanoate has been shown to inhibit the growth of human pathogens, such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The method for analysis is based on gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (GCMS) and requires sample preparation by extraction or distillation. The methyl esters are converted to methyl myristate or methyl ethyl before analysis.
