Ethyl 4-phenyl-2,4-dioxobutanoate is a hydrogenated derivative of the pyrazole. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi. Ethyl 4-phenyl-2,4-dioxobutanoate has an active methylene group that is susceptible to nucleophilic attack by amines. This chemical also has fluorescence properties that may be used in pharmaceutical preparations.
