Description:
2-Bromo-benzenethiol is a bifunctional reagent that can be used to synthesize amines by the amination of aldehydes and ketones. This reaction is selective for primary and secondary alcohols, with tertiary alcohols being unreactive. The substrate molecule is typically an amine or hydrazine. The most common reaction mechanism involves nucleophilic attack at the carbonyl carbon followed by protonation of the resulting enolate. 2-Bromobenzene thiol has been shown to react with fatty acids in a reductive amination reaction. It also has a trifluoromethyl group, which gives it properties that are hydrophilic.
