Bis(4-chlorobutyl) ether is a hydrogen chloride donor. It has inhibitory activities on thionyl chloride, which is an oxidizing agent that can be used for the production of chloroformates. Bis(4-chlorobutyl) ether also inhibits the reaction of ethylene with magnesium to produce ethylene oxide. This compound has been shown to interact with hexahydrate and regulate permeability in animal cells.
