9-(Tetrahydro-5-methyl-2-furyl)adenine (9-THF) is a nucleoside analogue that inhibits the growth of tumor cells by inhibiting the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of neuroblastoma cells in a dose-response curve and is used in the treatment of leukemia, lymphomas, and other cancers. 9-THF inhibits RNA synthesis by binding to adenosine sites on DNA and prevents uracil from being incorporated into RNA. This drug also inhibits guanine incorporation into RNA, which is essential for cell division. 9-(Tetrahydro-5-methyl-2-furyl)adenine is active against murine prostate cancer cells.
