Product Information

Name:
Methyl 2-cyano-3-methylbut-2-enoate
Description:

Methyl 2-cyano-3-methylbut-2-enoate is an ester that is used as a solvent for oil paints. The solvent is highly efficient and has a low boiling point. It can be synthesized by reacting methyl acetate with cyanoacetate in the presence of a copper catalyst, resulting in the formation of the ester product. In addition, this compound can be synthesized by reacting methylmagnesium bromide with n-hexane to form an alkyl ester. Methyl 2-cyano-3-methylbut-2-enoate reacts with chloride to produce a chloroalkyl ester. This product also reacts with acid compounds to produce acids that are useful as catalysts in organic reactions such as hydrogenation and oxidation.
