Description:
2,2-Dimethyl-1-(pyridin-2-yl)propan-1-one is a n-oxide that can be synthesized by the intramolecular reaction of pyridine with ethyl acetoacetate. The carbonium ion formed in this process is ionic and can react with water to form an anhydride and rearrange to form the desired product. This reaction is reversible and has been reinvestigated to allow for the production of other n-oxides.
