SIB 1757 is a potent, selective and orally active cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2) agonist that was developed as a neuroprotective agent. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of various nervous system diseases, including Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease. SIB 1757 has been shown to have a potent antagonistic effect on glutamate receptors. This drug has also been shown to protect against the neurotoxicity associated with exposure to cytosolic calcium overload or glutamate receptor activation by blocking the release of calcium from intracellular stores. Furthermore, SIB 1757 has been shown to act as a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist and suppress striatal dopamine levels.
