Glutaurine is an anxiolytic drug, which belongs to the class of drugs known as transport inhibitors. Glutaurine prevents the transport of catecholamines from the cytoplasm into synaptic vesicles in nerve cells by blocking both dopamine and noradrenaline transporters. It also blocks serotonin uptake into neurons. Electron microscopic studies have shown that glutaurine can inhibit virus activity by binding to the virus coat protein and preventing its attachment to host cells. The inhibition of protease activity by glutaurine has been observed in vitro, leading to a reduced level of hepatitis B surface antigen and serine protease in patients with chronic hepatitis B. It has also been shown that glutaurine can prevent autoimmune diseases through its antioxidant system and hydroxide solution, which may be due to a reduction in free radicals. In vivo treatment with glutaurine has been shown to significantly reduce platelet aggregation and protein synthesis in rats infected with herpes simplex virus type
