Momordicoside L is a dietary agent that has been shown to have antidiabetic properties. Momordicoside L increases insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake in the liver, adipose tissue, and muscle cells. It also reduces fatty acid synthesis and increases the rate of fat oxidation. The anti-inflammatory effects of momordicoside L may be due to its ability to bind to TNF-α receptors. In addition, momordicoside L may help prevent cancer by inhibiting the growth of tumor cells in culture and by reducing the number of tumors in mice. Momordicoside L has also been shown to be effective as an anti-inflammatory agent in rats with adjuvant arthritis and as a treatment for ulcerative colitis in mice.
