It has been shown to inhibit P-glycoprotein (P-gp), which is an ATP-binding cassette transporter protein. Pinoresinol inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting the production of chemoattractant proteins and increasing levels of proinflammatory prostaglandins. This natural phenolic compound also has antioxidant properties and can protect cells from oxidative damage.
