It slows down the process by which fat is broken down, leading to an accumulation of fat in the liver. 5-(Propan-2-yl)pyrrolidin-2-one can be used as a precursor for vinyl acetate, which is used in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics. 5-(Propan-2-yl)pyrrolidin-2-one also has been shown to inhibit transesterification reactions.
