Description:2,4-Dimethoxyphenyl-(phenyl)methanamine (2,4-DMPP) is a synthetic amino acid. It is synthesized from the reaction of acetonitrile and phenylmagnesium bromide in trifluoroacetic acid. The product is purified by preparative ion-exchange chromatography, followed by amino acid analysis. 2,4-DMPP has been shown to have biological properties that are similar to those of serotonin. This compound has been used as a starting material for the synthesis of other compounds with biological activity. 2,4-DMPP can be synthesized by solid phase synthesis or high pressure liquid chromatography with reversed phase.
