Description:Cis-1,2-dihydroperillic acid is an endogenous metabolite of perillyl alcohol. It is formed in the liver from perillyl alcohol and is excreted in the urine. Cis-1,2-dihydroperillic acid has been shown to inhibit cell growth and induce cancer in animals and humans. Its mechanism of action may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of a growth factor called growth factor β (GFβ). This hormone stimulates the proliferation of mammary carcinomas and may also be involved in carcinogenesis. Cis-1,2-dihydroperillic acid is present in plasma at low concentrations, which have been measured using a human bioassay.
