OPC 21268 is a drug used to treat chronic congestive heart failure. The drug works by increasing the concentration of cytosolic Ca2+ in cardiac myocytes, which leads to increased contractility and vasopressin secretion. OPC 21268 has been shown to be effective in experimental models of congestive heart failure. OPC 21268 causes vasoconstriction in the renal medulla, thereby increasing the glomerular filtration rate and reducing edema. This drug also has an effect on gland cells, leading to an increase in transcription-polymerase chain reaction activity and cellular proliferation.
