Belotecan is a drug that inhibits the angiogenic process by binding to the tetrazolium dye in vivo. Belotecan is administered intravenously and is used in combination therapy for solid tumours. It has been shown to inhibit tumor growth and metastasis in vivo models. Belotecan binds to monosodium salt which inhibits the ability of cancer cells to express P-glycoprotein (P-gp) substrate, thereby increasing the uptake of cytostatic drugs. This drug has also been shown to have inhibitory properties against infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, although it has not yet been approved for this use.
