Harmol hydrochloride monohydrate is a β-glucuronidase inhibitor that has been shown to induce autophagy in various cell types. Harmol hydrochloride monohydrate is used to determine the function of lysosomal enzymes, which degrade cellular debris and pathogens. It is also used to examine the effects of harmol glucuronide on pluripotent stem cells. Harmol hydrochloride monohydrate can be injected into mice for fluorescence studies or tritiated for injection solution studies. Harmol hydrochloride monohydrate also has ganglioside activity and can be used as a substrate for harmine hydrochloride in order to produce radioactive harmol.
