2-(3,5-Dimethoxymethyl)ethanol is a chemical compound that has been shown to have antiproliferative effects. It inhibits the growth of cells by binding to and inhibiting the activation of growth factor receptors. 2-(3,5-Dimethoxymethyl)ethanol is also a nitro derivative that can be reduced with sodium borohydride to form 3,5-dimethoxyacetophenone. This conversion is facilitated by the presence of an acid catalyst such as hydrochloric acid or acetic acid. The synthesis of 2-(3,5-dimethoxymethyl)ethanol has been shown to follow a functional theory whereby the reactant is converted into the product in one step with no intermediate compounds formed.
