    Product Information

    Name:14-Norlanosterol
    Controlled Product
    Brand:Biosynth
Description:14-Norlanosterol is a cholesterol biosynthesis inhibitor that has shown to be effective in reducing serum cholesterol levels. The enzyme that this drug inhibits is the cholesterol acyltransferase (CAT). The CAT enzyme transfers an acyl group from acetyl coenzyme A to the 3-hydroxy group of cholesterol, producing 14-norlanosterol. This process is important for the production of bile acids and for the synthesis of steroid hormones, such as testosterone. 14-Norlanosterol has been shown to inhibit the activity of CAT by binding to its active site, preventing formation of a ternary complex with acetyl coenzyme A and cholesterol. This inhibition prevents the transfer of an acyl group from acetyl coenzyme A to cholesterol, which leads to lower serum cholesterol levels. 14-Norlanosterol also inhibits other enzymes involved in sterol synthesis, including methyltransferase, epoxidase activity, and demethylation.
