4,4'-[Hexahydrofuro[3,4-c]furan-1,4-diyl]bis(2-methoxyphenol) is a potent GABA receptor agonist and has been shown to have synergistic effects when co-administered with other drugs. It specifically binds to the alpha subunit of the GABA receptor (GABAA). 4,4'-[Hexahydrofuro[3,4-c]furan-1,4-diyl]bis(2-methoxyphenol) also inhibits bacterial growth in vitro by inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. The LC/MS/MS method used for analysis is selective and sensitive. This compound can be detected in vivo using a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) electrochemical detector.
