2-Hydroxy-3-methoxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde is an organic compound that can be synthesized by the electrochemical oxidation of hydroxybenzaldehyde. The synthesis of 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde from hydroxybenzaldehyde is possible by using acetonitrile as a solvent and under a constant voltage of 0.4 V. This reaction produces 2-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-2H-[1,3]dioxane with a yield of 69%. The product has been found to be a ligand for platinum catalysis.
