(3-Phenylpropyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed to 3-phenylpropanol (3PP) in the body. It has been shown to have an antagonistic effect on nitric oxide synthase (NOS), which is an enzyme that produces nitric oxide. 3PP inhibits the production of nitric oxide by NOS, which is involved in inflammation and cell death. The prodrug also exhibits anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
