Colistin A is an antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections and has also been used as a last-resort treatment for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. Colistin A inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 16S ribosomal RNA, inhibiting translation. It is a synthetic drug with high purity and it has been shown to have antiviral and antifungal properties in vitro. Colistin A has also been shown to be active against bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex.
