Sodium chlorate is a chemical compound that is composed of sodium and chlorine. It reacts with fatty acids to produce anhydrous sodium carbonate and chlorate. Sodium chlorate has been shown to have hemolytic activity, which is the ability to destroy red blood cells. It also has affinity constants for pyrazole rings in some carcinogenesis studies. The hydrolysis of sodium chlorate produces hydrochloric acid, which can be used as a catalyst in asymmetric synthesis reactions.
