3-[[4-(2-Cyanophenyl)phenyl]methyl]-2-ethoxybenzimidazole-4-carboxylic acid is a potent inhibitor of the ion channel TRPV1. It blocks the activity of TRPV1 channels and therefore prevents the entry of calcium ions into the cell, which may be due to its ability to bind to the receptor site on TRPV1. This compound has been shown to block strong stimuli that activate TRPV1 channels, such as capsaicin, protons and heat. 3-[4-(2-Cyanophenyl)phenyl]methyl -2-ethoxybenzimidazole-4-carboxylic acid has also been shown to inhibit other ion channels, such as those for sodium channels, potassium channels and chloride channels. This compound is a high purity research tool that can be used in both basic and applied research in cell biology and pharmacology.
