Crocin IV is a carotenoid that is derived from crocetin, a natural phenolic compound. It has been shown to have the ability to lower blood glucose levels in vitro and in vivo. Crocin IV is also known to be a potent antioxidant and to inhibit fibrosis of the kidney. This drug may be useful for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases due to its ability to increase blood flow by increasing the release of nitric oxide from endothelial cells. Crocin IV has also been shown to have anticancer effects and may be useful as an anti-inflammatory agent in infectious diseases.
