Ipsalazide inhibits the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are inflammatory mediators in the intestine. Ipsalazide also reduces pain, cramps, and diarrhea from colitis and other inflammatory bowel diseases. Ipsalazide should not be administered orally because of its high oral toxicity (LD50 = 2 mg/kg).
