Humantenine is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO). IDO is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of tryptophan to kynurenine. This product also inhibits the demethylation of tryptophan and hydrolysis of indole to oxindole. Humantenine has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activities of rat liver microsomes. It also has a potent inhibition effect on nmr spectra in caco-2 cells and monoclonal antibody binding affinity.
