Deacetylpseudolaric acid A is synthesized from the linear polyketide intermediate deacetylpseudolaric acid B. The biosynthesis starts with the condensation of two molecules of acetoacetyl-CoA and proceeds via a polyketide synthase. Deacetylpseudolaric acid A is an antimicrobial agent that exhibits potent activity against various strains of intestinal bacteria, such as E. coli and Salmonella spp., as well as some fungi and yeast strains. Deacetylpseudolaric acid A also has anti-cancer activities in vitro and in vivo.
