Dolutegravir is a drug that is used to treat HIV-1. It binds to the viral envelope protein and blocks the fusion of the virus with its host cell, thereby inhibiting HIV-1 entry into the host cell. Dolutegravir has been shown to be an inhibitor of ion channels and ligand-activated ion channels in vitro. This drug has also been shown to bind to certain proteins that are involved in signal transduction pathways. Dolutegravir binds to peptides that are present on the surface of cells and acts as an agonist, thereby activating these receptors.
