LF 11 is a probiotic that contains live bacteria, which are intended to promote healthy intestinal flora. The bacteria in LF 11 have been shown to inhibit the growth of other bacteria by releasing antimicrobial peptides. These peptides are amphipathic, meaning they can be soluble in both water and oil phases, and they have been shown to have an interactive effect on bacterial vaginosis-causing strains. LF 11 also has antiinflammatory activity, which may be due to its ability to increase insulin-stimulated glucose uptake and reduce fatty acid biosynthesis in adipocytes.
