Product Information

Name:
Polygalaxanthone xi
Description:

Polygalaxanthone XI is a natural product that belongs to the class of xanthones. It has been shown to have an antibacterial effect against Gram-positive bacteria, such as S. aureus and E. coli, and Gram-negative bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This compound was obtained from the plant Polygala tenuifolia. Polygalaxanthone XI is a racemic mixture of two conformers, alpha and beta, which can be differentiated by spectroscopic analyses. The alpha conformer is more potent than the beta conformer in inhibiting bacterial growth due to its higher affinity for binding with the bacterial cell membrane. The skeleton of polygalaxanthone XI consists of an acetal linkage between two xanthones linked by an ether bond at C-1 and C-2 positions on each molecule.
