ABT-072 is a pharmacokinetic inhibitor that acts as an NS5B polymerase inhibitor. It is in Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. ABT-072 has demonstrated potent antiviral activity in vitro and in vivo, without any detectable cytotoxicity against human hepatocytes. In Phase I studies, ABT-072 was well tolerated and had a high bioavailability with a half-life of 15 hours. This drug also inhibits the cytochrome P450 enzyme system, which may lead to the development of drug resistance in patients with chronic HCV infections.
