Description:7-Bromo-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-2(1H)-one is a new atypical antipsychotic. It has been shown to have 5-HT1A receptor antagonist activity, and d2 receptor agonist activity. 7-Bromo-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-2(1H)-one has been shown to be an effective agent for the treatment of schizophrenia in animal models. This drug has also been shown to have antidepressant effects in rats, suggesting that it may have additional therapeutic effects. The mechanism of 7-bromo 3,4 dihydroquinazolin-2(1H) one is not fully understood but is thought to involve the reduction of quinazoline by reductive amination with tertiary amines followed by cyclization with piperazine or other heterocycles.
