Guajadial is a natural product that belongs to the family of guaianolides. This compound has been found in an acetate extract of the bark of the South American tree Guajacum sanctum. The antitumor activity of guajadial has been shown to be related to its ability to inhibit endothelial cell proliferation, which is essential for tumor growth and metastasis. The mechanism by which guajadial inhibits tumor growth may be due to multidrug resistance (MDR) by inhibiting the function of P-glycoprotein at the cell membrane level.
