Isocorydine is a bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Isocorydine inhibits the production of ATP by binding to the enzyme protopine, which is involved in cellular energy production. It has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Isocorydine binds to rat liver microsomes through intramolecular hydrogen bonding with amino acid residues on the surface of the enzyme, which prevents access of other drugs or substrates.
