Product Information
- Aloins
Aloin is a natural product that belongs to the class of coumarin derivatives. It has been found in cimicifuga foetida and rhizoma gastrodiae. Aloin is able to inhibit protein synthesis by interfering with the transcription-related polymerase chain. Aloin can also inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β), which are involved in apoptosis pathways. Aloin's antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria has been well documented using an analytical method involving barbaloin, which is a chemical compound derived from aloin. The efficacy of aloin against Gram-negative bacteria has not been extensively studied, but it can be inhibited by toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4).
