Ac-Leu-Leu-Met-H (Aldehyde) is a tetrazolium dye that is used as a biological stain for the detection of bacteria in infectious diseases. It binds to toll-like receptor 4 on macrophages and other cells, which triggers a cascade of events leading to bacterial cell lysis. Aldehyde also has been shown to be an autophagy inducer and can cause neuronal death when administered in high doses.
