Description:
Antipain is a peptide that inhibits the activity of cathepsins and thiol proteases. It has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on cancer cells and antibacterial effects against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. Antipain is an inhibitor of papain, which is an enzyme that breaks down proteins in the body, and thus may be useful for treating diseases such as cystic fibrosis.
